News
from Edible Phoenix
April 2006
Dear Charter Members of the Edible Phoenix Community,
Thank
you for making the inaugural edition of
Edible Phoenix such a big success.
Copies of the publication have been flying
off the counters and we've received accolades
from many of you. It's heart-warming to
see such a passionate and amazing response.
You
may know that one of the other "hats" I
wear is as the co-leader of the local Slow
Food Phoenix group. We've gotten together
with three local farmers' markets to host
a special Farm Tour and Local Foods Dinner
on Sunday, April 9. You'll have an opportunity
to tour and talk with three local farmers
and an olive mill owner, taste fresh-from-the-farm
creations from six talented local chefs,
and then dine under the stars at the Farm
at South Mountain. As a supporter of local
foods, this is one event you do not want
to miss! For more info and to order advance
tickets (required), go to www.slowfoodphoenix.org
and click on the tickets graphic in the
lower left corner.
I
recently spoke on the topic of local food
at a meeting of Arizona Women in Food and
Wine (www.azwfw.com).
One of the questions asked was "Should I
buy local or organic?" I gave the questioner
my personal response, but I'm happy report
that we'll have an article on just that
issue in the next edition of Edible Phoenix
(out May 15). Samuel Fromartz, author of
Organic Inc: Natural Foods and How They
Grew will share his opinions.
In
the second issue of Edible Phoenix
we'll also have articles on those foods
that say summer to me: corn, peaches, ice
cream and goat cheese. What? You didn't
know cheese had a season? Read guest contributor
Lisa Falconer's article on Arizona's Black
Mesa Ranch and all will be revealed.
Happy
reading and eating!
Warm
regards,
Pamela L. Hamilton
